Why Not All Are Healed? - Verse of the Day :
And it happened that the father of Publius lay sick of a fever and dysentrty. Paul went in to him and prayed, and he laid his
lands on him and healed him. So when this was done, the rest of those on the island who had diseases also came and were healed.
-Acts 28:8-9
Daily Bible Reading Plan
Morning : Acts 28
Evening : 2 Samuel 1-2
Why Not All Are Healed?
There are seven reasons why not all who prayed for healing receive instand healing:
(1) Healing is not always instant. In Acts 28:8, when Paul prayed for the father of Publius, who lay sick of fever and
dysentery, he was healed (Gr.iaomai) instantly. But when the rest of the islanders who had diseases came to Paul for
healing, the recovery was not immediate.
The Greek word for "healed" in verse 9 is therapeuo which speaks of gradual improvement over a period of time. Even
Jesus Himself had to pray more than once before some of the sick were totally healed (Mark 8:22-25). Very often, you need
persistent prayer and perseverance for the process of healing to be complete.
(2) Lack of faith. Faith is the atmosphere for miracles and healing. There were occasions when even Jesus could do no
miracle because of the unbelief of the people (Mark 6:5-6). Doubt and unbelief is a sure miracle killer.
(3) Unforgiveness and bitterness. It is estimated that up to 80% of all sicknesses are psychosomatic (caused by mental
and/or emotional distress). If you don't deal with the problems of your inner world--anger, resentment, bitterness,
unforgiveness--you will hinder healing.

(4) Demonic bondage. In Luke 13, there was a woman who entertained a demon within her for 18 years. That spirit of
infirmity resulted in her body being twisted and bent over. Until that demon was cast out, she couldn't experience any
healing.
(5) Blatant sinning. The psalmist says that if you cherish or treasure sin in your life, God is not going to hear
your prayers (Ps. 88:18). Promiscuity, cigarette smoking and alcohol addiction are the causes of sexually transmitted
diseases, lung cancer and liver sclerosis respectively. If you are unwilling to repent of these vices, God is unlikely to
heal you.
(6) Pride and religious prejudices. In Luke 5:17, the power of God was present to heal but the arrogance and religious
pride of the Pharisees prevented them from being touched by the Lord. Intellectual prejudices caused by bad theology can
prevent healing to occur.
(7) Poor management of the human body. Paul's worker Epaphrpditus had a physical burnout that almost killed him (Phil.
2:27,30). You need to take a commonsense approach in caring for your body. A mismanaged body will not find healing and
health.
(8) Sovereignty of God. We must accept that we are imperfect people living in an imperfect world. Sometimes, when all is said and done, we have to accept the soverignty of God. He knows what is best for us. Healing of our body will
happen--either in this lifetime or in the world to come. Having done all that you can, stand on your faith in a good God!
